Welcome to Kyoto
As Japan's imperial capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto carries its history with quiet grace — in the hush of moss gardens, the geometry of temple rooflines, and streets that still remember another century. This is a city best explored slowly, one lantern-lit alley at a time.
Highlights
01 — Fushimi Inari Taisha
Thousands of vermillion torii gates climb the wooded slopes of Mount Inari, forming tunnels of color that have become one of Japan's most iconic sights — equally beautiful at dawn's quiet or dusk's glow.
02 — Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
Towering bamboo stalks filter sunlight into shifting green light overhead, while the wind draws a soft, hollow rustle from the grove — a sound officially preserved as one of Japan's 100 Soundscapes.
03 — Gion District
Lantern-lit lanes lined with latticed teahouses make Gion the beating heart of Kyoto's geisha culture — stroll at twilight in a rented kimono, and you might catch a glimpse of a maiko hurrying to an evening engagement.

Spring (late March–early April) brings cherry blossoms along the canal-side Philosopher's Path, while autumn (mid-November) sets the same route ablaze with maple color. Both are peak seasons — arrive early to enjoy the quiet.
